In 2011, Martinsville, Indiana gained a new opportunity to learn the art of clogging. Studio J2 Dance began to offer clogging lessons through a new instructor, Marie Grafton. The group takes a new outlook on clogging compared to the other options that Martinsville has. The group looks outside the box for its routines.
The first year of existence, two group options were available. These were the Young Adult and Children's classes. Then, at the start of the 2012-2013 dance season, an Adult class was added. The classes are flexible with the learning abilities of it's members and take into consideration of every member's ideas.
Marie Grafton has been clogging since the age of 5. At a young age, Marie was chosen by her studio to compete with her clogging group at several local competitions. In her teens, Marie joined the MJ Cloggers out of Martinsville and Mooresville, Indiana. This is where she gained the most experience. Through the group she had countless performance opportunities. Marie was the assistant of this group and was given the opportunity to help fellow cloggers and teach classes while the main instructor was on maturity leave. When this group dis-banned, Marie was part of the several cloggers to start up a new group, which she left shortly after to focus on schooling. Marie then returned to the group and was able to spend another year with the group before being given the opportunity to teach at Studio J2 Dance. Marie has always wanted to spread the joy clogging brings!
Through clogging, Marie has had the opportunity to compete at local fairs and festivals, state fair, and Simone Pace's E.P.I.C Conference. Marie has taken lessons from several renown cloggers such as: Naomi Pyle, Jeff Driggs, Chip Summey, Brandon Norris, Chip Harrison, and many many more!
